Causes of steel fence damage

• Weather: Steel holds up remarkably well against most weather, but even the sturdiest material will struggle if powerful winds and large hailstones pelt it continuously. In these cases, some of the fence posts might bend or warp.

• Soil Erosion: While steel is quite strong, it’s possible for the soil around the posts to erode. In this case, your fence will be pulled out of position and have a great strain placed on it. It’s crucial that you address this problem as soon as possible since it’s easy for the strain to eventually lead to breakage.

• Accidents: While unusual, a car running off the road and into your fence or a tree falling on your fence can cause serious damage, even to steel. Often times, this requires a partial replacement.

• Wear & Tear: Even steel will eventually wear out over time. If the problem isn’t widespread, you might be able to make some simple repairs and prolong the life of your fence. Eventually though, you may need a full replacement.

• Rusting: Thanks to the treatment most steel fences undergo, rusting is actually a fairly minor concern. However, this treatment will weaken over time and continuous rainy weather can exacerbate the problem.
