Just like a thermal cup keeps contaminants hot on a cold day and repels warm heat when trying to keep something cool, this radiant barrier helps keep the heat from escaping in the winter and prevents your attic from overheating in the summer. 

Here, Dr. Energy Saver installed a dual-purpose SilverGlo rigid foam complete with a radiant barrier to help repel the hot sun rays in the summer and absorb the heat in the winter. We installed the radiant barrier in what is called the knee wall of the attic. This area is also known as the thermal boundary, which is the middle ground between your conditioned living area down below and your unconditioned attic area up top. It is important to properly seal off this area, as it has proven to cut heating and cooling costs as much as 20%!

Having an insulated attic is beneficial and important in itself. It is even more important to install this insulation when you have ductwork up in your attic. Hot and cold air runs through these ducts and if exposed, unwanted warm or cool air from your attic will find its way in. Along with the insulation of the attic, these ducts are air sealed around the bottom so no air pockets are formed. Insulation and air sealing in your attic will help your home contain the heat or cold air it’s producing so you save on money and energy.
