Interior Paint Stripping & Removal

Change up the look of your interior with interior paint stripping & removal

Looking for a brand new look to your interior, but don’t want to paint over chipped, peeling paint? If so, interior paint stripping and removal may be best for you!

Types of paint stripping & removal methods

Essentially, paint stripping and removal is the act of removing old paint, whether it be cracking, peeling, or flaking, to start with a fresh new look. Before getting started, there are a few known paint stripping and removal methods to consider.

  • Chemical Paint Stripper- Paint stripper is made from strong chemicals that remove any type of paint with ease. Because the chemicals used in paint stripper are so harsh, special equipment must be worn such as goggles, masks, and gloves. The process includes applying the paint stripper in small sections with a paintbrush, waiting for paint to bubble, then going in with a scraper to scrape it off.
  • Heat Gun- Mostly effective only on smooth surfaces that don’t have a shellac, varnish, or polyurethane finish to them. This method includes peeling off any flaking parts of the paint first, then going in with a heat gun to make the paint sizzle up in order to scrape it off with a scraper. Again, proper safety equipment must be worn in order to prevent possible injury.
  • Sanding- Sanding is the method of using sandpaper on painted surfaces and only works well on oil-based paints. If used on water-based paints, the paint will just clog the sandpaper up. This process will require using specific sandpaper grits to remove the desired amount of paint and is usually an ongoing process until all the paint is removed.
  • Hand Scraping and Wire Brush- Hand scraping is used best on small areas and where paint is already peeling or flaking. If used on surfaces where paint is still on solid, it could ruin the underlying surface by applying too much pressure to remove the paint. A wire brush is used to get any small corners or spaces that can’t be reached with a hand scrapper.

Call a paint removal professional for the best results

As mentioned earlier, each process of removing paint requires correct equipment, protection, and safety. Small mistakes can turn out to be very dangerous if not taking the right precautions. That’s why it’s highly recommended to hire a professional paint stripping and removal contractor. With years of experience and special techniques and equipment put in place, they will know how to do the job safely and efficiently.
