Types of well pumps

• Jet Pumps: These types of pumps are placed above the ground and suck the water out of your well using a vacuum. Jet pumps are usually used in more shallow wells and struggle with very deep wells. Shallow well jet pumps are typically used for wells around 25 feet deep, and the deepest option, deep well jet pumps, usually only work for wells up to 150 feet deep. While a good option for a shallow well, you should have a submersible pump installed if your well is any deeper than 150 feet.

• Submersible Pumps: This is the type of pump you want to use if you have a particularly deep well. While a jet pump is located at the ground level and works by sucking the water upwards towards it, a submersible pump is actually located deep within the well and focuses primarily on pushing the water upwards and away from it. These types of pumps can be effective in wells up to 400 feet deep.
