Back in those days, pools were inground, concrete or gunite, and didn’t have nearly as many bells and whistles as today's pools do. In the intervening years, above ground and semi-inground pools came onto the market, making the purchase even more practical and affordable. By the ‘60s, the vinyl pool made its way onto the market, offering a wealth of benefits of prospective pool owners.

Vinyl, a synthetic material composed of chlorine and ethylene, is a plastic that is highly durable and versatile. Being that vinyl is synthetic, it holds up against the elements better than most other materials, not fading in the sun, or wearing away due to the chemical content of the water. They even perform excellently in saltwater pools, and generally resist tears, rips and punctures better than most other liner materials. So, when installed and maintained correctly, a vinyl liner can last upwards of a decade--depending on who uses the pool and how often.
