These pools are highly praised for their comparative prices against materials like concrete and gunite, as well as the range in size, and depth. There’s also the material’s wonderful resilience against the elements that can destroy so many of our outdoor luxuries. However, despite being one of the more durable options, these pools, like any other, will require some maintenance.

Typical annual maintenance for a fiberglass pool doesn’t really look different from that of any other pool, except for some certain amounts of chemicals. However, you won’t have to worry nearly as much about algae or bacteria taking root in a fiberglass pool, as the surface is smooth and doesn’t provide a foothold, unlike porous concrete. The lack of needing to scrub the pool’s walls is another huge draw for homeowners who do their own maintenance. However, the lack of extra steps also makes service agreements much cheaper than with other models.

Being a strong, durable material, fiberglass doesn’t see many of the problems that other models may suffer from. The material isn’t likely to fade, and any cracks that usually arise are hairline cracks, usually caused during install. The biggest problem that fiberglass pools used to face, has mostly been solved by the industry. In the old days, fiberglass pools were backfilled with sand, as standard practice. What contractors didn’t know at the time, is that the sand had the tendency to self compact and either push in against pool walls, or down on plumbing, causing disconnects, and leaks. Now, these pools are backfilled with stone and dewatering systems, designed to drain groundwater from around the pools are the new standard practice.
