How does a wind mitigation inspection work?

During a wind mitigation inspection, your roofing contractor will inspect your home and document any wind mitigation features your home might have. Specifically, they will be looking at your home’s basic structure, the construction materials used, the shape of the roof, the materials used in the roof, the condition of the roof, and the construction of the walls. They will also examine the garage doors, windows, and skylights before looking to see if you have wind mitigation features already installed in your attic (roof-to-wall attachments, roof-deck attachments, secondary water barriers, etc) or have hurricane shutters either installed or stored on the property.

After the wind mitigation inspection, they can let you know if there are any further wind mitigation features that could be installed and can pass the results of the inspection to the insurance company to see if you qualify for any rate reductions.
