Cabinet refacing is your affordable replacement alternative

As your kitchen cabinets get older, you may consider a cabinet replacement. This option however, is expensive and time consuming. With a replacement, you might not be able to use your kitchen for weeks. What if there was an alternative?

Luckily, there is an alternative in the form of cabinet refacing. With cabinet refacing, the old cabinets are not removed, but instead covered with a thin veneer of wood or plastic laminate to give a new look. Afterwards, the door and drawer fronts are replaced to match and then additional details like hinges, knobs, and pulls are added to complete the transformation.

Advantages of cabinet refacing

• Affordable: Cabinet refacing uses the existing structure of your cabinets, which makes it far less expensive. On average, the cost will be half that of replacing the cabinets.
• Quick: Cabinet replacement sometimes can take weeks to complete, making your kitchen unusable for all that time. With cabinet refacing though, it will take a week at most, and often times less.
• Less disruptive: Cabinet replacement is a huge disruption that includes cabinets being torn out while new ones are installed. With cabinet refacing though, you can avoid this disruption and still use your kitchen while your cabinets are being refaced.
• Customizable: While only a replacement can completely change the structure of your kitchen, there are still a wide range of color and style options to choose from when refacing your cabinets

Disadvantages of cabinet refacing

• Can’t change kitchen design: Cabinet refacing is dependent on the structure of your existing cabinets. This means you can’t change their location. If you want to completely transform your kitchen, then refacing isn’t for you.
• Structure dependent: Similarly, you can’t reface cabinets that are structurally unsound. If the cabinet structure is seriously damaged, then you have to replace it instead
