A hot tub vs. a spa- what’s the difference?

There aren’t many differences between a hot tub and a spa, but there are a few. The main difference is that typically, a hot tub can be disconnected and moved, whereas a spa is traditionally built into the ground, or utilizes a natural hot spring. These modern counterparts to the natural ones are complex systems that are mostly packed into the shell containing the main tub itself, hiding away the plumbing components and any potential issue with them.

Being such complex systems, they are composed of many parts that must all work in tandem to keep the hot tub or home spa functioning the way it should. If any part of the system breaks, it may be immediately obvious, such as if the many jets have stopped working, but as with any plumbing system, leaks may develop and go undetected.
