Wrought Iron Fence Installation & Replacement

Add timeless beauty to your home with wrought iron fence installation or replacement

Wrought iron fencing refers to a type of iron fencing that is flexible and easy to hammer, twist, and bend into shape. You’ve likely seen this type of fencing around many older homes, particularly luxurious ones. A skilled iron smith can make sure that no two wrought iron fences look alike and create a design completely unique to your home. Unfortunately, there aren’t many iron smiths and this custom fencing is one of the most expensive options by far. Using manufactured, off the shelf iron fence, however, can make the price far more reasonable.

Advantages of wrought iron fencing

  • Durable & strong: As you might expect from iron, wrought iron fencing is incredibly sturdy and lasts a long time since it doesn’t rot and won’t easily deteriorate or warp. Wrought iron is also immune to pests like rodents and insects. While it can rust, this tends to be slow and can usually be repaired by sandpapering the spot and then painting over it. Similarly, most other issues can be prevented with a bit of maintenance and perhaps an annual inspection.
  • Attractive & customizable: The look of wrought iron is something few other materials can compete with. There are a wide range of attractive designs available, all of which can enhance the look of your home and help it stand out. If you can take the extra expense, then the sky’s the limit if you work with an iron smith.
  • Minimal obstruction: While the exact look can of course vary, most wrought iron fencing have gaps that allow for an easy view of the outside. This lets you enjoy the extra layer of protection without completely obstructing your view.

It is worth noting that there are wrought iron fencing substitutes available if you like the look, but are nervous about the expense. Not all of these options are great, but ornamental aluminum stands out as a solid option. Ornamental aluminum has a similar look, but is light, easy to install, and more affordable. With that said, no wrought iron alternative can quite match the durability and strength of actual wrought iron.
