For many years, venting the crawl space to the outdoors was considered the best fix to moisture intrusion. This logic came from the idea that air from the outside would help dry out the crawl space. However, while installing or opening vents to the outside may help the overall air quality, the moisture in the air won’t dissipate unless the air outside is drier than it is in the crawl space itself. In climates of near constant humidity, this method wouldn’t be possible.

A crawl space dehumidifier can do wonders in preventing standing water, mold and mildew, but can do nothing if the problems already exist.
